Hey everyone,
well, last week the boys were still in camp and so I had a lot of freetime. On monday (7/18/16) Samantha and I drove to Sacramento, ate in a Cheesecake Faäctory with this awesome cheesecake, walked through the mall and visited the Capitol building of the state California. Actually we visited the hospital first because Samantha´s employee´s daughter got a little baby. It´s a preemie and we visited them the day after the baby was born, the little girl was still very small but very adorable. After that we drove to downtown and went to the capitol. There we saw the golden bear and the rotunda and the governer´s old office and the new one. After that I could see Sacramento from the top because I visited Jeff´s office which is located in the highest or second highest building in Sacramento. After that I looked around in the lobby which is kinda like a museum about money transportation and gold digging in California. Afterwards I walked around in Sacramento, looked a little bit around in Old Sac and walked down the river on the other side. When I was back at the bank, I sat on a bench waiting for Jeff and Samantha when a handicapped man rolled by with a colourful bird on his shoulder and we talked. Then he asked whether I wanna hold the bird and I thought: „Why not?“ 😀
On Wednesday I drove to Chico and spent a few nights there. I drove an old tractor, a backhoe, a forklift and a bobcat. That was fun 🙂 I saw Samantha´s almond farm and the hazelnut field. Her farm is huge! I also visited the Bidwell Mansion (Bidwell was the founder of Chico, he ran for president once) and walked over the Chico State University campus which is really pretty. On Thursday evenings Chico is closing most of their streets in downtown and then there are a bunch of food trucks and a band… It´s kinda like farmer´s market in Davis, just bigger. I also visited the brewery there.
On Friday I joined the bike party here in Davis. That´s so cool. It´s like a bike tour where you meet new people of all ages 😀 Everyone has cool lights on their bikes and there is music… We ended up at the brewery where we all drank some fresh beer 😛
Nate came back home on Sunday and left on Monday with Jeff for the scout camp. On Monday evening TJ came back home from Colorado and together we drove to Samantha and then to the Camp Lassen (the cubscout camp). It was so nice there! We picked up their grandpa Claude at his camp in Johnsville so that he could see the flag ceremony and eat dinner with us and the scouts. In the evening there was a camp fire and almost every group showed a little sketch. We slept in little tents and helped them packing together the next morning. The boys, Jeff and I spent a few more hours at the cabin in Johnsville. It´s in the forest, at the creek 🙂 a great place! Today the boys and I drove back home after spending one more day in Chico.

Auch letzte Woche waren die Jungs noch im Zeltlager in Colorado, weshalb ich viel Freizeit hatte. Am Montag sind Samantha und ich nach Sacramento gefahren, haben in der Cheesecake-Factory gegessen (und natürlich gab´s zum Nachtisch Käsekuchen :D) und im Krankenhaus besuchten wir die Tochter von Samanthas Angestelltem, die ein Frühchen bekommen hatte. Danach sind wir in die Innenstadt gefahren und haben das Kapitol besichtigt. Wir sahen das uralte Büro des Governeurs und das neue. Als Arnold Schwarzenegger Governeur war, wurde er der Governator genannt 😀 Danach habe ich Sacramento, Kaliforniens Hauptstadt, von oben gesehen, von Jeffs Büro aus und bin noch ein wenig auf eigene Faust durch Sacramento gelaufen, am Fluss entlang und in Old Sacramento. Als ich wieder bei der Bank war und wartete, kam ein behinderter älterer Mann auf mich zugerollt und wir unterhielten uns. Er hatte diesen Vogel auf dem Arm und fragte, ob ich ihn mal halten wolle. Wieso nicht? So kam dann das Foto zustande 😀
Mittwoch, Donnerstag und Freitag verbrachte ich in Chico, sah Samanthas Mandelfarm, fuhr einen alten Schlepper, nen Radlader, nen Gabelstapler und noch so nen kleines Ding auf Ketten 😀 Das war witzig. Vor allem, weil der mexikanische Arbeiter nicht glaubt, dass Frauen iwas fahren können und er dann ganz erstaunt war, als ich mit dem Schlepper losgefahren bin 😀 Außerdem habe ich mir noch Chico etwas genauer angeschaut, war auf dem Unicampus und sah die Bidwell-Villa (Bidwell war der Gründer Chicos). Donnerstag Abends schließen sie immer die halbe Innenstadt und stellen Essenswagen auf und verschiedene Stände und man kann frisches Obst und Gemüse kaufen, es gibt eine Band, die spielt und man picknickt (im Prinzip so wie hier in Davis mittwochs nur etwas größer).
Am Freitag war ich bei Anny (brasilianische Au Pair) und fuhr ich dann zur Bike-Party/ Fahrrad-Feier 😀 Um 8 Uhr fuhren dann 40-50 andere und ich mit Musik und vielen coolen Lichtern durch Davis und nach knapp ner Stunde kamen wir an der Brauerei an, wo wir uns alle erstmal nen Bierchen gönnten (ich hab auch eins bekommen, denn sie haben nicht nach dem Perso gefragt :D) Man lernt bei sowas immer viele Leute kennen, denn dafür sind so Treffen auch da. Man bekommt ein Namensschild… Es war auch alles vorhanden. Von Kindern bis zu Rentnern fuhr jeder mit.
Letzten Sonntag kam Nate dann aus Denver wieder, nur um am Montag dann schon mit den Pfadfindern wieder auf ein Camp zu fahren am Mount Lassen. Das liegt im Norden Kaliforniens. Am Dienstag sind TJ, Samantha und ich dann auch dazugestoßen und haben auch dort im Camp übernachtet. Für die Flaggenzeremonie und das Abendessen holen wir noch Claude, Jeffs Vater ab, der eine Hütte ganz nah an dem Camp hat. Nach dem Essen gab es noch ein Lagerfeuer, wo fast jede Pfadfindertruppe einen kleinen Sketch vorführte. Wir zelteten auch da und am nächsten Morgen, nachdem wir alles zusammengepackt hatten, besuchten wir nochmal für ein paar Stunden den Großvater in seiner Hütte. Sie steht in Johnsville. Das ist im Nadelwald (kein besonders dichter Wald) und ein kleiner Bach läuft da durch. Auf dem Weg zurück habt mir Jeff erklärt, dass am Fuße des Gebirges früher einmal mehrere Canyons / Erdrisse waren und die dann mit Lava vollgelaufen sind und im Laufe der Jahre hat das Wasser und der Wind die Erde zwischen denn vollgelaufenen Spalten weggespült, so dass da jetzt riesige Abgründe zwischen den Lavawänden sind. Ist schwer zu erklären 😀 Muss man vielleicht einfach mal gesehen haben.
